In the Garden, starring Boyfriend and featuring the voices of Billy Porter, Jake Shears, Big Freedia, and Peaches
Boyfriend is a multidisciplinary performer, writer, and producer celebrated for sharp lyricism, bold theatricality, and socially charged storytelling. Since emerging in 2012, she has carved out a singular lane as both a solo artist and sought-after collaborator, contributing to releases by Charli XCX, Troye Sivan, and Kesha, and appearing on recordings with Lil Wayne, Big Freedia, and Pussy Riot. Praised by Rolling Stone for her electrifying live performances, she also appears in the Grammy-winning documentary Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story.
Her latest work, In the Garden, is a daring musical concept album and live theatrical experience — a modern reimagining of the creation story told from the perspective of its often-overlooked heroine, Eve.
Blending provocative storytelling with genre-bending music, In the Garden explores identity, autonomy, temptation, and rebellion. As Eve questions her role in a world created for her, she confronts the consequences of desire, knowledge, and freedom — reframing one of humanity’s oldest stories through a fiercely contemporary lens.
The production stars Boyfriend as Eve and features the voices of Tony and Grammy winner Billy Porter as Narrator, New Orleans icon Big Freedia as God, Jake Shears as Adam, and legendary feminist performance artist Peaches as the Serpent.
