PEEK INSIDE THE WRITERS’ ROOM WITH “LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR” AT LE PETIT THEATRE

September 15, 2026 | News

Inspired by Neil Simon’s own experiences working alongside the likes of Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, and Larry Gelbart as a young staff writer on Sid Caesar’s “Your Show of Shows,” this hilarious and touching ensemble comedy showcases a harried staff of television writers working frantically for the famous TV star Max Prince. As they attempt to one-up each other with punch lines and gags, the very real threat of network censorship looms over them, compliments of Senator Joe McCarthy.

Taking on the role of Max Prince is Joshua Mark Sienkiewicz, who audiences may remember from last season’s God of Carnage. Filling out the writers’ room (in alphabetical order) are A.J. Allegra (IRA), Yvette Bourgeois (HELEN), John Jabaley (VAL), Brady Lewis (LUCAS), Danielle Morvant (CAROL), Sean Ricalde (KENNY), Daniel Rigamer (MILT), and David Sellers (BRIAN).

“Of course we all associate Neil Simon with uproarious comedy,” says Le Petit’s Artistic Director, A.J. Allegra. “But, behind that wit lies an immense intellect paired with a heart full of feeling. Laughter on the 23rd Floor is one of his most autobiographical shows, and showcases every one of those elements: wit, intellect, and heart in equal measure. It is a love letter to comedy and the unseen heroes that write the punchlines.”

Scott Burrell directs Laughter on the 23rd Floor, with scenic designs from Andre LaSalle, costume design from Jennifer Johnson, lighting design from Daniel Zimmer, sound design from Jamie Doyle, and properties design from Lexi Mancuso.

Part “Saturday Night Live,” part “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Laughter on the 23rd Floor is classic comedy by an American icon and master of the form. This play is intended for an adult audience and contains adult language and situations. Recommended for teens and up.
