In this profound time of grief, pain, and anger, we at Le Petit Theatre stand with all those who seek and are actively working to promote justice and equity for all. As stewards of a theatre company with a long and, at times, problematic history, we are inspired in this moment to re-double our commitment to educating ourselves, and to taking genuine, meaningful action to combat the virulence of racism in our places of business, in our field, in our communities, and in ourselves.
As residents of New Orleans, not to mention the United States, we are the beneficiaries of an immense cultural wealth and body of work created by black artists. We share their stories, and we pledge to represent the vital diversity of our city and our country on our stage.
We stand in grief with the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and the told and untold thousands of unarmed black people who have perished because of racial injustice. We stand in grief and in support of you, our Le Petit family, our New Orleans family, our American family. We pray in this moment that tomorrow brings a new and better day. Black Lives Matter.
