NEW ORLEANS (September 4, 2018) - Satchmo at the Waldorf, an extraordinary one-man, three-character play that journeys into the heart and mind of New Orleans’ beloved jazz legend, Louis Armstrong. In March 1971, backstage at the Empire Room of New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel, the greatest trumpet player in the world sits in his dressing room trying to pull himself together to do one final show. Because as long as they clap, Satchmo will go out there and play. His mind wanders through the amazing journey of his life and his complex relationships with his manager Joe Glaser, and Miles Davis. In a tour de force performance, one actor journeys into the mind and heart of an American musical genius and the man behind the legend. Starring Drama Desk, Obie, and Olivier Award winner and New Orleanian Barry Shabaka Henley as Louis Armstrong, Joe Glaser, and Miles Davis. Performance dates of Satchmo at the Waldorf are October 5 – 21, 2018 at Le Petit Theatre, 616 St. Peter St. New Orleans, LA 70116. Subscriptions and Single tickets are available weekdays from 12 – 5 pm at the Box Office (504) 522-2081 or online anytime at www.lepetittheatre.com.

Satchmo at the Waldorf offers a revealing glimpse behind the curtain at the inner life of the icon that was Louis Armstrong. It’s one of the great joys of doing plays at Le Petit Theatre that we get to explore the lives of New Orleans' most important artists and cultural ambassadors, and I’m simply thrilled to welcome the great Barry Shabaka Henley back to his hometown in a tour de force performance.” says Le Petit Theatre Artistic Director, Maxwell Williams. Williams is set to direct with set designer Hannah Lax, lighting designer Joshua Courtney, costume designer Laura Faye Sirkin-Brown and sound designer Matt Jackson completing the creative team.
